Brief History of Past Roleplays

Chapter 1: Into The Unknown (2018 – 2019)

  1. Through the Pages
  2. ARK-354
  3. Guns, Gold, Graves, and Grit
  4. Bishamonten
This chapter represented the community’s first year of roleplays. Through the Pages, ARK-354, and Bishamonten stand as foundational experiences and had significant influence in subsequent roleplays. In retrospect, it feels apt that they all revolve around the exploration of new frontiers and the confrontation with the unknown.

Chapter 2: Redefining Possibilities (2019 – 2020)

  1. Symphony of Stars
  2. Year Zero
  3. Camp Caduceus
This chapter had really strong themes of challenging social norms and the potential for transformation. The production value for roleplays sharply rose during this period from Symphony of Stars‘ weekly voiced podcast to the thrilling experience reading your character getting claimed by their godly parent in Camp Caduceus. Here, we can see the community getting a better understanding of the burgeoning format.

Chapter 3: Precipice of a New Era (2020 – 2021)

  1. Kore Z2: Ley Sy’s Pox
  2. The Louvainian Affair
  3. Demon Capital
  4. Heirs of Kadmon
  5. Heartbreak: RakuEnd
This chapter coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the roleplays in this time experienced a surge of energy and activity. These roleplays pushed the boundaries further with different narrative structures from their predecessors such as how The Louvainian Affair had 6 parallel faction storylines or how Heartbreak: RakuEnd experimented with a competition format.

Chapter 4: Ancient Reawakenings (2021)

  1. TTP II: Spill in Wonderland
  2. The Aviary
  3. Tomodachi Falls
  4. Mysts and Mythos
  5. Fate/New Genesis
This chapter continued the energy from the previous chapter. As the world was returning back to new normals, so was the community trying to find that balance between the old structures and the newer techniques. There is something poetic about how these roleplays have themes about the confrontation of legacies and identity — a question posed both in-character and out of it.

Chapter 5: Endure the Unforgiving (2022 – 2023)

  1. Heirs of Virulen
  2. Hotel La Lacie
  3. Goliath: Birds of Prey
  4. Kuwaresma: The Blight of Matandagat
  5. Sanguine Stakes
  6. The Meta Library: The White Vault
  7. Records of Goetia: Bloodstained Covenant
  8. Demon Capital II: Cursed Fates
This chapter stepped back to address the most common issue in the community: burnout. By the middle of Chapter 4, there were repeated concerns about burnout in the community. We experimented with all sorts of structures and mechanics to adapt and continue the spirit of roleplay amidst these challenges. 

Chapter 6: Complex Histories (2024)

  1. Blood Group: Louvain ’83
  2. Heirs of Pirouz
  3. Masque of Magnificence
This chapter centered around the interplay of history, legacies, and personal identities. The settings here delved into historical contexts and pursued stories that explored how individuals and groups adapt to their circumstances. While it’s the shortest of the all the Lacie’s Box chapters, there has been a time spent into reevaluating our goals and community. Plans were drafted, fresh ideas were being shared, and a new excitement has started to creep in.
